The LIVING CHRISTMAS TREE began in
Barnwell County in 1996.  The tree stands
30 feet high and 25 feet wide with a two foot
star beaming up top. The tree is custom
built.  It is made of steel and can hold 72
choir singers. It's brilliance comes from the
decorations, choir robing, and the
thousands of lights. The preparations for
technical procedures begin 7 months before
Christmas in the area of Lighting effects,
sound modifications, scripting, music
selection, cast building, and schematics of
presentation.  All lighting effects are
computer programed by the director.  2004
will be the eighth Christmas production.
Dreams of the future additives to this
production are numerous and will be
exciting to behold.   If you ever have an
opportunity to see and hear a Living
Christmas Tree, do so, it's well worth the
experience.  Though in a small setting,
Barnwell's Living Christmas Tree has a
professional touch by it's volunteer teams
from construction, decoration, technical, to
directing.  Even though this event is
Ticketed, it is a FREE event (Tickets help
solidify seating capacity crowds)

year's presentation
This year's theme "SEASON OF LIGHT" spoke about the Light of the World, Jesus!
Previous year's contained about 17,000 lights. The approach to try to pull off an
accumulation of 55,400 lights at once was a sight to behold.
The abundance of "lights" was a constant reminder through the presentation that Jesus is
indeed the Light of the World and He desires each of us to also carry His Light into a dark
world. Thanks to all who made the Barnwell County Living Christmas Tree a sucess
In Previous Years.....
Never would we ever predict that such a tragedy would happen such as what unfolded
on September 11, 2001. Many lost live, injured, physically and emotionally drained, and
some confused with the questions of "Why?" or "Where do we go from here?" With all that
had transpired through the weeks to follow September 11 an opportunity came about for
our Christmas ministry to be a tool in which we could voice our prayers as well as pay
tribute to those at work in the relief efforts in New York and Washington as well as pay
tribute to those that serve in our local city and county. With these things in mind our 2001
Living Christmas Tree was dedicated to those that lost lives and those who served in the
relief efforts. May God's grace be that which many who are hurting lean upon during this
time.

Hagood also started a Candle Vigil Web Site for many to sign their names and type a
short prayer that would be sent to New York and Washington. This page will stay in
operation indefinitely. You may go there and look at it or you can still light a Candle
yourself by clicking here: "
Candle Vigil". May God's blessings be upon this great nation.

"A Night To Remember"
Barnwell County has had two Living Christmas Trees for several years. In 2002
Hagood Avenue Baptist proposed to Barnwell First Baptist that we begin to share this
ministry by alternating year's of presentation. Barnwell First would take the odd year's
as Hagood would take the even years.
A song entitled "Wise Men Still Seek Him" was added in
1998. The song would have such impact that it would be
the finale song for the next 4 years
